Inspired by The Ultima 6 Remake, an Exult-based remake of The False Prophet, developers Ideal Dragon and Stardrop have undertaken a project to re-create Ultima 8: Pagan using the same engine.

At present, the pair are working on building the world of Pagan in the Ultima 7 engine, after taking some time to build needed custom assets to re-create the look and feel of Ultima 8’s darker — but more vibrantly colourful — game world. Currently, Ideal and Stardrop are working on the Sorcerer’s Enclave, although the shoreline in which the game’s opening sequence takes place has also been built.

You can follow the development of Ultima 8: Exult on the Ultima Dragons Discord server; there’s a dedicated channel there pertaining to it. Ideal also occasionally posts updates to the Ultima Dragons group on Facebook, though far less frequently.
